Ease of use highly valued by O3Spaces' customers

O3Spaces' customers highly value the ease of use of O3Spaces Workplace according to a recent survey.

O3Spaces conducted a customer survey to find out which aspects of its Document Management and Collaboration Solution their customers valued the most. In the survey answers all kinds of benefits were named like O3Spaces Workplace's cross platform capabilities, the different integration possibilities, secure access and document management functionalities like version control and calendering. Improvement possibilities noted were the upcoming e-mail integration, meta tagging and workflow capabilities.

Nevertheless there was one positive aspect of O3Spaces Workplace that was named by all customers interviewed, its ease of use.

O3Spaces Workplace's 'ease of use' and it's 'end-user readiness' can be attributed to it's user-centered design (UCD). The Functional/UI Design Lead at O3Spaces, Johan de Fouw is practicing UCD because it is a design philosophy that focuses on the needs, wants, and limitations of the end-user of an interface during the design cycle. "Most document management applications are developed without the end-user in mind. We decided to do it differently, with the end-user user at the heart of our design process. Developing just good functionality is not good enough; offering good functionality with a great user experience is what we strive after."

As a result the training effort needed to make an end-user familiar with the application is very limited. End-users are able to work with the system after just half a day of training. That this philosophy works is underlined by the answers of O3Spaces' customers to the question why they chose O3Spaces Workplace:

"I tested several solutions and found the easiest to use was the O3spaces solution. I also saw the potential for future changes in O3Spaces to include features that we might need. Our users’ age and IT skills span a very wide range. We had to have a system that was simple to use and maintain."

"The end-user approach was a major driver for our decision. We are in a non-tech environment where people do not want to learn new applications. The little training effort needed was a big plus for us."

But not only the training time is limited due to the user-centered design. The installation and configuration according to O3Spaces' customers takes at the most two weeks. O3Spaces Workplace 2.3.0 verfügbar

Mac OS support
O3Spaces Workplace 2.3.0 is the first release to incorporate support for Mac OS X. Repository search in the Workplace Assistant

O3Spaces Workplace 2.3.0 incorporates an application embedder that enables the integration of external web applications, wikis and websites in the Workplace environment. A modest, but very usable novelty in 2.3.0 are workspace-, folder- and file-links that are available in the Workplace browser environment, as well as in notification messages. O3Spaces shines in SURFnet Technology Scouting

SURFnet recently conducted a Technology Scouting of the O3Spaces Workplace collaboration suite. The focus of this in depth product evaluation was on two main questions, namely:

1. Is the O3Spaces Workplace software useful for the support of project groups and collaboration in an educational setting?
2. How does O3Spaces score compared to the application that is already used by SURFnet for collaboration, MS Sharepoint?

Strong advantages of O3Spaces Workplace, as highlighted in the report, are the support of mixed environments (MS Office AND OpenOffice.org/StarOffice; Firefox AND IE; Linux, Windows, Solaris AND MAC OS X), the desktop integration through the Workplace Assistant and the general ease of use.

Furthermore, O3Spaces Workplace was found to be a scalable product, well suited to support the different kinds of projects found in an educational setting. In big projects (with thousands of users) and smaller projects (such as collaboration within a single faculty) alike, O3Spaces Workplace proved to be well suited.

The survey concluded that, where Sharepoint is more of an 'anything for anybody' product, O3Spaces Workplace has a narrower focus on best of breed document management and collaboration functionality, resulting in a much more convenient and efficient delivery of functionality.

Die niederländische Stadt Heerenveen vertraut ab sofort einer OpenOffice Web 2.0 Arbeitsumgebung basierend auf O3Spaces Workplace. Durch Implementation des neu veröffentlichten O2Spaces Workplace profitiert die Stadt Heerenveen jetzt durch eine effektive Dokumentenverwaltung, erweiterte Funktionen zur Zusammenarbeit und Vorlagenverwaltung als integrierter Teil der hauseigenen OpenOffice Umgebung.

“Das Problem, auf das wir als Stadtverwaltung trafen, war das Fehlen wichtiger Funktionen wie z.B. die integrierte Vorlagenverwaltung oder Versionskontrolle“, so Johan Hiemstra, Leiter des strategischen ICT Büros der Stadtverwaltung Heerenveen.  “Ein sehr wichtiges Kriterium bzgl. dieser Anforderungen ist die schnelle und einfache Integration in die produktive Büroumgebung, weil diese als Schlüsselapplikation gilt, die jedermann nutzt.”

Seit der Veröffentlichung der Version 2.2 beta vor zwei Wochen haben bereits mehr als 10.000 Interessierte unsere Community Version von O3Spaces Workplace auf ihren Computer geladen. O3Spaces Workplace 2.1 veröffentlicht

O3Spaces kündigt die sofortige Verfügbarkeit des intergrierten Basic Content Service (BCS) für die OpenSource-Bürolösung OpenOfiice.org und ihrer kommerzeillen Schwester StarOffice an.
O3spaces Workplace beinhaltet zentralisierte Verwaltung von Dokumenten für die unternehmensweite Zusammenarbeit inkl. einer Echtzeit-Versionskontrolle und Dokumentensicherheit.

Die neuen Hauptmerkmale der Version 2.1 sind stark erweiterte Plug-Ins für OpenOffice.org und StarOffice sowie auch das neue Plu-In für die Benutzung von Microsoft Office. Die Veröffentlichung der Version 2.1 von O3Spaces hat somit die Möglichkeiten für die zentrale Dokumentenverwaltung vertieft und erweitert.

Für OpenOffice.org und StarOffice bedeutet die tiefergehende Integration Punkte wie z.B. der Versionsvergleich von  veröffentlichten Dokumenten oder die Möglichkeit sich Kommentare zu den Dokumenten anzeigen und hinzufügen zu können. Das Plug-In beinhaltet ebenfalls die Möglichkeit des direkten Exports jedes ODF-Dokuments in eine PDF-Datei.

Mandriva & O3Spaces unterzeichnen globale Distributionsvereinabrung

Paris, Gouda (Niederlande), 9 März 2007 - Mandriva und O3Spaces kündigen heute ihre Kooperation an.

Mandriva veröffentlicht ab sofort O3Spaces Workplace als Teil des "Corporate Server 4" und "Mandriva Linux Powerpack+ 2007 Spring edition". Die Kooperation beinhaltet ebenfalls eine spezielle Support-Vereinbarung. Das beduetet, daß den Kunden ein abgerundetes Software- und Servicepaket angeboten wird, welches die Büroproduktivität, das Teamwork und die unternehmensweite Zusammenarbeit, baiserend auf der Mandriva Linux Server Technologie, deutlich steigern kann.

O3Spaces Workplace wird für Mandriva-Kunden als Teil der Mandriva Distributionspakete, sowie auch durch das Mandriva Händlernetz und den Onlineshop verfügbar sein.
